» I love this special. I can watch it over and over again. Watching beautiful powerful black women celebrate and honor one another was so … I cannot even describe my feelings of pride and self-worth witnessing that. The Church Sunday bit was one of the most electrifying things I’ve seen on TV. It reminded me so much of Sundays at my church when I was a little girl.

I want her to do another one. Next year will be 10 years, let’s bring it back.

Today in 1970, Cheryl Brown won the Miss Iowa Pageant and was the first African American to compete in the Miss America Beauty Pageant.
